The DSU was established in 1920 and has ever since been directly affiliated with the Social Democratic Party of Denmark. With more than 2000 members under 30 years and local branches all over Denmark DSU is one of the strongest political youth organisations in Denmark.

There is a wide variety in the type of work, the DSU is engaged in. The political discussions within DSU are very broad from the European Union, Environmental issues and globalization to economic, youth and welfare topics. But in DSU we are also very occupied by communicating with the youth of Denmark through campaign activities for instance and being visible in the daily life in Denmark.

The DSU has a very strong educational programme, with more than 15-20 seminars and courses a year for every member of DSU. The seminar are all different from each other – but are focused on organisational and political development. Over 800 of the members of DSU are a part of our seminars and courses a year.
International policies have always been a cornerstone in the work of the DSU. We have always prioritized our work in the International Union of Socialists Youth (IUSY) and ECOSY-Young European Socialists very high. Furthermore the DSU has, in the summer of 2005, international solidarity projects in Belarus, Bolivia and in the Balkans and are finalizing projects in Uganda and in the Middle East.
The organisation is organised with the Congress as the most important body of DSU and is held every second year. The Congress elects the leadership of DSU and the executive committee. Between the Congresses the Bureau is the highest ranking body and between Bureau meetings the executive committee handles every day issues.
